it reduces the exacerbation rate of the illness – this means less hospital
visits and better quality of life for longer.

What is the active ingredient of SPIRIVA?
The active ingredient is tiotropium bromide monohydrate (tiotropium), a novel compound
discovered by Boehringer Ingelheim. SPIRIVA is formulated into a powder capsule.
Each capsule contains enough medication for 1 day.
How is it administered?
SPIRIVA is inhaled once daily via a HandiHaler device.

Are there any side effects?
SPIRIVA is well tolerated and suitable for long term
treatment of COPD. The most commonly reported adverse effect is dry mouth.
