GOLD is the Global Initiative For Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease, a collaboration between leading respiratory physicians, the World Health Organization, the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute (part of the United States Federal Government’s National Institutes of Health), and pharmaceutical companies.

GOLD’s objectives are to increase awareness of COPD among health professionals, health authorities and the general public; to improve the diagnosis, management and prevention of COPD and to encourage research into COPD.
